- Seldom do you see men applying body lotion. We relinquish the task of caring for our body mainly because we often feel it is less important. Remember however that your body makes up most of the skin. Most people disregard this because we are more concerned about our face and only our face. If you do not moisturize your body chances are it gets dry and scaly and it can result in early aging. So this would mean you will look unattractive when you are spending summer in Bali or Ibiza. In my case I have a special reason why I use body lotion. Aside from keeping my skin healthy and constantly moisturized, I need it because I sometimes drench myself longer in salt water when I am surfing. One time I developed itch on my skin and severe rashes. This I consulted to my dermatologist and he did not recommend anything but to
moisturized. When I select a brand, I go for cosmetics which are specially made for men. I got hold of Clinique M body lotion. The first thing I like about Clinique is it has no smell. I don’t like any lotion that mixes with my perfume because it is confusing and it changes the smell when it gets mix. This body lotion does not have any traces of smell from the time you put it on and till the time when you go home at the end of the day. There are some scent-free cosmetics which promises early no-scent formula however it ends up giving you worst aroma and sticks in your wardrobe right after. This is absolutely scent-free and no traces of smell that you can detect. This body lotion also gives you firm skin which is another good point. Like for my need wherein I am constantly drenched in salt water, my ...
- concern of getting skin disease and eventually stripping off moisture in my skin has to be remedied. Salt water can cause severe dryness. Those who are constantly swimming or surfing has to use body moisturizers which has good firming effect so that you can prevent skin aging. Before I was not using this body lotion, my skin was rough and loose. I can noticed the skin in my legs and in my body turning scaly and not firm. However, after using this for several weeks, there is a different improvement brought about by this body lotion. My skin now is firm and it looks natural.
Because this is a body lotion, the moisturizing capacity should be taken with paramount consideration. I use this before I will do surfing. I apply this in my body and then cover it up with SPF. Thus I expect that I am moisturized while I am in the water. This lotion has amazing moisturizing effects. It can resist dryness brought about by salt water and prolonged sun exposure. Your skin remains dewy and smooth and you will not experience dryness at all. This is one thing that I am so impressed about because it has effective hydrating effect. The only problem I had with this body lotion is its sticky formula. You can sense how dense it is even after it is absorbed in your skin. When you apply it, the formula is already sticky and then there is this grease-like after feel. It wouldn’t be too bothersome if you are in an air-conditioned room and when you are swimming but for ordinary days it can be. But nonetheless I would still rate this body lotion high because I am amazed of the firming benefits you can get I can disregard the sticky feel given that it can do its job of moisturizing your body.

There was a moment of panic earlier this year when Clinique very quietly stopped restocking Mild Clarifying Lotion, and equally quietly, slipped 1.0 Clarifying Lotion out with the standard ‘we’ve just improved Mild Clarifying Lotion! This is an updated/cleaned-up version!’.
Let’s be clear, the only thing these two products have in common is that they are both by Clinique and both called ‘Clarifying Lotion’. They are completely different. It is not the case that Clinique have cleaned-up Mild and revamped it with 1.0, they’ve just deleted Mild Clarifying Lotion from their range and brought out 1.0 as a replacement, which is obviously their right to do, but it doesn’t make much sense to me.
For ease of comparison I’ll list things side by side with comments below each comparison:
Clinique For Men
Mild/1.0
Salicylic listed as fifth ingredient/ Salicylic listed as ninth ingredient
In the US, ingredients do not have to be listed in order of quantity in the product, in the EU, they do, so by this standard there is a lot less salicylic in 1.0 than there was in Mild, rendering this almost pointless for oilier skins looking for a glycolic-free acid to target spots.
Packaging
The packaging is see-through on Mild, and green coloured plastic on the new 1.0. This has eliminated the need for the synthetic colourings present in Mild. This is good.
Ingredients

1.0 is in a witch hazel base, an improvement on the high amount of butylene glycol in Mild.
Listed for ‘Delicate’ skins/Listed for ‘Very Dry to Dry’
I’m unsure why a dry to very dry skin would need salicylic acid. They’d be better off with lactic. This makes me think that the salicylic acid content in the new 1.0 is purposely mild, and suited to twice daily use. I suspect this is labelled towards dry/very dry as those skins would be contraindicated in using the other Clinique Clarifying Lotions.

So how do they compare when used?

Although the sting factor was very low on Mild – I mean you literally had to use it on an open spot to notice there was an acid present, there is absolutely no sting factor on 1.0. Which is great for you if you don’t like a sting, and love Clinique toners, but would class this as a beginner acid/suited to all skins.
Clinique M Lotion Discontinued
Clinique are one of the few brands that have the means and resources to bring out proper acid toners, the current Clarifying Lotions have long needed revamping, they could remove the alcohol content and replace them with different acids suited to differing skin issues, instead of offering what are essentially ‘traditional’ toners graded from ‘drying’ to ‘nail varnish remover’ in the case of Clarifying Lotion 4.
If you have combination skin and would like a toner with a little salicylic, this is for you.
If you are dry to very dry, which this is targeted towards, I would suggest a lactic may be better for you. Witch hazel can be drying used at such a high percentage, and could potentially cancel out the hyaluronic content.
M Lotion Clinique
Clinique 1.0 Clarifying Lotion is £26.50 for 400ml and available from all Clinique stockists.
