SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free’s YouTube channel, LDF TV, has been awarded the Grand Prix award in the social media (brand) category in the digital advertisement & campaign category at the 2020 A.N.D Awards held on 20 January.
The awards, now in their 14th year, are the country’s largest digital marketing recognition platform. They are hosted by the Korea Digital Enterprises Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT, Korea Broadcast Advertising Promotion Corporation, and Korea Internet & Security Agency.
The final winners in 64 fields, including digital media & services and digital advertisements & campaigns, are selected after judging by sector and external experts and industry CEOs.
LDF TV has 720,000 subscribers, the highest level of any Korean travel retailer. As a popular platform for global brand campaigns, LDF TV scored highly for enhancing customer intimacy through collaboration with influencers, and for channel branding that features relevant, timely content.
‘Pony RED ROOM LIVE’, presented by the hugely popular beauty products YouTuber Pony and which generated 790,000 video views, was praised as a stellar example of live commerce.

The company also won plaudits for its annual Lotte Duty Free Family Concert, held online in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The concert, a campaign unique to Lotte Duty Free, drew 2.2 million views across six countries. It also attracted 900,000 new Lotte Internet Duty Free and a +24% rise in YouTube subscribers.

The ‘We Want a Duty-Free Life’ brand campaign with supergroup BTS (who also serve as Lotte Duty Free faces) received 26 million views per month, while featuring a powerful message to support those suffering from COVID-19 and to help them look forward to a better life.
LDF TV also features a wide range of content, including entertainment, beauty, and material related to small and medium brands.
Lotte Duty Free is to introduce the first live broadcast of duty-free domestic customs clearance on 4 February through Luxe Mall Live.
Broadcasting at 8pm, the event will see more than 880 items presented with discounts of up to 70%, including fashion items, handbags and clothing of popular brands such as Jimmy Choo.
Interested customers can watch the live stream on Luxe Mall Live (ldfluxemall.com), an online shop dedicated to Lotte’s clearance of duty-free goods that have gone through import customs clearance and will be delivered after the Lunar New Year holidays without need for a separate departure procedure.

Various events are scheduled to commemorate the livecast, such as the chance to receive an Angelinus Americano coupon by leaving a comment on Lotte’s official Instagram account before 4 February.

What’s more, customers who spend over KRW1m ($904) during the broadcast will be in for the chance to win a voucher for the Lotte Hotel Signiel.
Lotte has long planned to target the live commerce market, as Covid-19 hit the face-to-face shopping tradition.
According to Kyobo Securities Research, the domestic live commerce market is expected to grow rapidly every year with a scale of about KRW2.8trn in 2021, KRW6.2trn in 2022, and KRW10trn in 2023.

The retailer now plans to regularly schedule live broadcasts for the sale of domestic customs clearance items, while also expanding the service to several platforms to provide more brands and products.
It will also expand the service to the general sale of duty-free goods, including for overseas customers.
Lotte Duty Free CEO Lee Kap said: “As the ‘no-contact consumption’ rapidly rises, targeting the live commerce market is an indispensable business field in the duty-free industry.
“Lotte Duty Free is a digital duty-free store to proactively respond to [the trend]. We will create a global standard.”
Furthermore, the retailer has also been selling 1,400 products from 33 brands at its Luxemall online shop at a discount of up to 72% since 22 December.

Brands such as Swarovski, Hula, Brooks Brothers, Marc Jacobs and Ponte Vecchio have recently been launched on the platform, while a luxury product exhibition is also to be held in the new year.

It will showcase luxury items from brands such as Etro and Lavetrina for Lunar New Year gifts ideas, fashion items such as Men’s Collection, Vivian Westwood and Cherebo, a Hula 20 S/S special exhibition with discounts of up to 48%, a fashion watch proposal exhibition for those wishing to celebrate the upcoming Valentine’s Day, along with various discount events for Victoria Secret items.
